Our largest pillar is a spiral candle. Beeswax is dripped on to build its shape, then the whole form is dipped until the surface closes in living gold. No fragrance oils — only the honeyed scent the cappings already hold. A slow companion for long evenings, about seventy hours. Place on a heat-safe dish and let the first burn make a full melt pool.

How to burn
Place it on a heat-safe dish. Keep it out of draughts. On the first burn, leave it until the melt pool reaches the edge — about one hour per 2.5 cm of width — or later burns will tunnel. Trim the wick to 5–6 mm. Dip the wick to extinguish; do not blow. When the walls are warm, gently hug them inward so all the wax melts.
Beeswax is dense and burns hot. A short first burn is what makes a pillar tunnel.
- First burn — and most later ones: keep the flame going until the melt pool reaches the outer edge. About one hour per 2.5 cm of width. A small pillar wants at least three hours; a wide one five or six. That first pool is the memory. Later burns follow it.
- Trim the wick to 5–6 mm before every lighting. Too long smokes; too short will not melt outward.
- Keep out of draughts. Always on a heat-safe dish.
- Do not blow it out. Dip the wick into the pool, then straighten it. Less smoke, easier next lighting.
- If it has already tunneled: a long burn (often five hours or more) until the walls thin — stay with it. Or loosely tent foil over the top with a small hole for the flame, one to three hours, so the rim softens. When the walls are warm, gently hug them inward, like a wave. Do not press wax onto the wick; that drowns the flame.
- If the flame is small: the wick is too short or buried. When cool, scrape wax away from it. Trim any carbon mushroom. Light at the base of the wick so it can take fuel.
- After a few good burns, hug the warm sides now and then so all the wax melts and nothing is left behind.

- Always burn on a heat-resistant, stable holder or dish.
- Trim the wick to 5 mm before each lighting.
- Leave 5 cm of space between burning candles. Extinguish if the flame smokes or grows too high.
